Hello all! On this page I will give you some incidents from my carréer. Spinal Tap was not so much a comedy but rather a documentary of life on the road with a progrock or rock band!
The Progfest Incident
At Progfest 1993 in Los Angeles Pär Lindh had been asked to appear as guest artist with the Swedish progressive rock group Änglagård at their US debut to play a solo on the great consert organ at Royce Hall at UCLA . Now in the afternoon Pär went to check out the instrument. The distinguished elderly gentleman who was in charge of the instrument began to explain how the organ worked in a way that he might have done to a school class whereupon Pär immediately made a few expert comments about the instrument at hand (Pär had been playing organ professionaly since the age of fifteen). The caretaker looked genuinely surprised at the Swedish progrocker dressed in black leather in front of him and cut the lecture short and just showed Pär how to switch the instrument off after the consert.
As Pär knew that his organsounds was going to have to compete with a mighty PA system he decided in the tradition of the great J. S. Bach to test the organs ¨lungs¨ namely to press the tutti button for full organ = all stops out! However after having played some mighty chords adding octaves on the pedalboard to give maximum power the organsound there were suddenly screams heard from the stage were people were working to prepare for the festivals soundcheck. What happened was that two square meters of stuckage had left the ceiling due to the vibrations created by the powerfull organ sound and fell down in a cloud of white smoke on the stage on the heads of the stage personel! At this moment the elderly gentleman threw up his hands in horror and left the scene of the crime…
This incident was reported in the LA press the following day with comments like ¨Swedish Viking Organist demoliches Royce Hall¨ !!!
This is what Keyboard Magazine wrote about Pär´s performance at Progfest: ¨Änglagard´s auxiliary keyboardist, Pär Lindh, stole the equipment show by sitting in on the fourmanual house concert organ. His sounds added a new degree of boneshaking meaning to the phrase ¨pedal tones¨!
